Wanted: Software Ideas for Data Interoperability in Disaster Management
by Johanna Zweiger
As part of the DG ECHO-funded project COVALEX, we will be running an online hackathon from July 22 - August 25, 2024. The hackathon is aimed primarily at students and doctoral candidates, and aims to develop an IT tool that addresses the challenges of data interoperability in disaster management, especially for hydrometeorological risks (floods, storms, droughts, etc.). We are particularly interested in solutions that take inter-organizational and cross-border challenges into account.
The hackathon is open to participants of all ages and UCPM member states (i.e., EU citizens as well as citizens from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine). Participants can register either as a group or as an individual. If needed, we will try to find a suitable team for individuals. Interdisciplinary teams, e.g., from computer sciences, social sciences and engineering are particularly welcome.
The best submission will be invited to take part in our Disaster Research Days 2024 in Vienna at the beginning of October (travel and hotel expenses will be paid for by the COVALEX project).
