Welcome to the network: Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU)
by Johanna Zweiger
We are pleased to welcome another ordinary member to our network - Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). Founded in 1966, JKU is one of the youngest universities in Austria and, with its four faculties (law, social sciences, economics, medicine, technology and natural sciences) and schools, pursues interdisciplinary, cross-faculty research in various domains, including "Digital Transformation", "Artificial Intelligence", and "Sustainable Development: Responsible Technologies & Management".
Through founding the Linz Institute of Technology, LIT, and the Linz Institute for Transformative Change, LIFT_C, financing high risk - high gain projects became possible, advancing inter- and transdisciplinary research. In the nine LIT Labs, researchers can work together on topics such as artificial intelligence, IT security, robopsychology and future energy. The LIT Open Innovation Center, in turn, promotes a targeted, low-threshold transfer of knowledge to industry and business.
Through its competence centers, Christian Doppler laboratories and spin-off companies, JKU has become an internationally recognized partner for technology-oriented collaborations. Its research is characterized by being interdisciplinary, and involving innovative technical solutions and contemporary research and development results.
JKU also contributes to disaster protection and research. In recent years, the university has produced various papers on risk models for critical infrastructures, the gender order in the wake of disasters, and risk and resilience assessment in cities. In particular, the research group at the LIT Secure and Correct Systems Lab deals with topics relevant to disaster control, such as cybersecurity, security of artificial intelligence and IT risk management.
The JKU representative within DCNA is Stefan Rass (Secure Systems chair):
With its research, JKU contributes to ensuring that infrastructures function smoothly and the security of IT systems is guaranteed which is particularly important in the context of crises and disasters. We look forward to working together with DCNA to make these systems even more reliable and secure for everyone.
We look forward to working together!
