Within the framework of national crisis- and disaster management the warning of the population is one of the most important tasks of the state to protect its citizens.

Based on the successful predecessor project KIRAS PASA it is the aim of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT), the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), Federal Ministry of Defense (BMLV), the federal state of Styria, DCNA, as associated partners the Austrian media houses, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and the Austrian Press Agency (APA) as well as the mobile service providers A1, T-Mobile Austria and Hutchison Drei Austria to complete the current system within the framework of KIRAS RELIANCE.

Besides Cell-Broadcast and satellite communication also DAB+ and Location-Based SMS are considered as possible additions to set the headstone for one of the world’s most resilient, modular and comprehensive public warning systems.

As a study-format the project started in October 2019 and will be completed within the duration of one year. With its professional expertise DCNA takes on the lead of the work package which covers the errorless integration of the media houses and the public info screens. To date multiple meetings at the headquarters of ORF and APA have been held to develop recommendations as close to reality as possible.
