New DCNA-project: ClimateDiseaseRisk

by Johanna Zweiger

ClimateDiseaseRisk addresses the threat posed by new insects (arthropods) that can transmit pathogens. The aim of the project is to develop a system that can deal with this threat. The focus is on mosquitoes and ticks, but the system should ultimately also work for other vectors (i.e., animals that can transmit diseases). The project will develop risk maps to identify areas where Asian tiger mosquitoes can hibernate over winter. A second goal of the project is to develop a smartphone app on ticks.

Within the project, DCNA is responsible for defining scenarios and collecting the requirements necessary for the desired risk assessment and system. Besides that, the developed system will be subjected to an acceptance analysis by the users. For this purpose, both workshops and expert interviews (online and in person) will be carried out.

The project is funded through the KIRAS program of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
